Feliz Cumpleaños UMA NOTA!

It’s hard to think Brazilians in Toronto and not immediately think of the UMA NOTA crew. That’s what happens when you run event promotion, live music and hold down the Brazilian community in Toronto for 5 strong years. I remember when I first started my radio show (that’s right, we turn 5 years old this summer too!) I would go to these parties to immerse myself in the rumble of the batucada drums and sweat it out to some banging tunes. The joining of Samba Elegua, Maracatu Nunca Antes and DJ General Eclectic would become a dream team for Toronto dancefloors and now 5 years later, they’re a little different but just as relevant and fun as ever!
Over the years I would meet these guys and become good friends with the Uma Nota Crew. Alex, JR, Jason and Maya each bring a different skill, perspective and style to each one of their parties and this cohesive unit has graduated from events to festivals in a short amount of time. Their drums now bang whenever you see a large group of people, from beach parties and Pedestrian Sundays in Kensington to large scale festivals and protests.

Every bit of planning behind this event, from music programming to design and visuals require a level of artistry, and although these details often go unnoticed, Uma Nota still take pride in creating cultural happenings in the city of Toronto. And as they celebrate their 5 year anniversary THIS FRIDAY NIGHT, Uma Nota continue to push the edge and book new and exciting artists.
