Fire on the Water Preview: DJ/Rupture

On Sunday, August 26, from 2pm to midnight, Toronto’s Sunnyside Bathing Pavilion and Beach will come to life with art installations and music courtesy of some of the most forward thinking global bass DJs on the planet.
Organized by The Waves and Marcus Boon – Fire on the Water is a day-long, all-ages, free event that combines multi-media art installations, live DJs, a pool and a beach to create THE party of the Summer!
Art by Aimée Dawn Robinson (Motherdrift), Juliet Palmer (Urbanvessel), Christie Pearson (The Waves) and Jim Ruxton (Subtle Technologies) + Music by DJ/Rupture (Mudd Up!), Venus X (GHE20G0TH1K), Maga Bo, Poirier, Torro Torro, Lucie Tic, Dos Mundos DJs and M.A.M.A.
Each week, between now and August 26, we’re going to profile one of the headlining DJs. This week, we’re talking about DJ/RUPTURE!
Rupture is one a sort of DJs DJ, or at least you would think he was for his ability to both party-rock and make you stop and think. The reality is – no other DJ is as well-known and respected in so many different musical circles than Rupture. He has DJ’d all over the globe, including as part of Nora Jones’ band, two John Peel Sessions and as a member of the 80-member Barcelona symphony orchestra (he had a turntable solo!).
Rupture has elevated music digging to another level – as he’s travelled to countless foreign lands, looking for fresh sounds, interesting musical movements and recording/collaborating with artists from all over the world. And his work doesn’t stop at the performance level – as an archivist and taste-maker he’s been called ‘a thoughtful pipeline for music from countless distant and obscure outposts’ by the New York Times. His weekly show, Mudd Up on New York’s WFMU (Wednesday nights from 8-9pm EST) has featured interviews and exclusive music from Das Racist, Venus X (also performing at Fire on the Water), Munchi, Javier Estrada and many others!
There’s no question, Rupture is one of the hardest working and most important DJs of our generation. We can’t be more thrilled to see him to do his thing LIVE – but get yourselves warmed up with this BRAND NEW MIX courtesy of DJ/Rupture and start practising your doggy paddle.
