Fire on the Water Preview: Maga Bo

On Sunday, August 26, from 2pm to midnight, Toronto’s Sunnyside Bathing Pavilion and Beach will come to life with art installations and music courtesy of some of the most forward thinking global bass DJs on the planet.

Organized by The Waves and Marcus Boon – Fire on the Water is a day-long, all-ages, free event that combines multi-media art installations, live DJs, a pool and a beach to create THE party of the Summer!

Art by Aimée Dawn Robinson (Motherdrift), Juliet Palmer (Urbanvessel), Christie Pearson (The Waves) and Jim Ruxton (Subtle Technologies) + Music by DJ/Rupture (Mudd Up!), Venus X (GHE20G0TH1K), Maga Bo, Poirier, Torro Torro, Lucie Tic, Dos Mundos DJs and M.A.M.A.

Each week, between now and August 26, we’re going to profile one of the headlining DJs. This week, we’re talking about MAGA BO.

Even though Maga Bo is normally associated with Brazilian sounds, his work spans the breadth of global bass music. His work has taken him across several continents, whether recording, performing live or collaborating with local artists, Maga Bo feels right at home wherever he may be.

Recently, Maga Bo dropped ‘Quilombo do Futuro‘ a powerful album that takes the sounds of traditional Afro-Brazil and shakes them up with some 21 century sounds and influences. From samba and semba to hip-hop and dancehall – this album takes you on a trip through the Quilombos (autonomous communities of escaped slaves living under colonial rule) of today. The album itself is a banger and the remix album is one of our favourite releases of this year (featuring Frikstailers, Poirier, Sabo and many more)!

We are mega excited to see Maga Bo play – his productions have always been exceptionally good and we expect banging sounds from all over the globe, with a strong lean towards the Brazilian vibes. Get inspired from the tracks below and we’ll see you in the pool on Sunday, August 26!
