Havana Club presents #OssingtonVibes this weekend in Toronto!
In 2010, Havana Club and Gilles Peterson decided to work together on this project that would take the BBC taste-maker to the island of Cuba to gather up some of the best musicians he could find to cut a record. So they created Havana Cultura and not only did they cut two records, featuring some of Cuba’s best Hip-Hop artists including: Ogguere, Danay, Obsesión, Los Aldéanos, Telmary, Yusa, Doble Filo, Gente de Zona, Kumar and Free Hole Negro, but they also took the show on the road – travelling all over Europe with a few of the artists and eventually this tour landed in Toronto and Montreal. For two consecutive years, the street of Ossington, in Toronto, was brought to life through the culture and beauty of Cuba’s music, food, drink and dance!
Inspired by the Havana Cultura festival in 2010 & 2011 that was headlined by UK taste-maker DJ Gilles Peterson, the Ossington Vibes Festival is the new celebration of Latin American music & culture on Toronto’s Ossington street.
Toronto’s finest DJs and musicians come together this weekend for a celebration of Toronto’s bumping tropical music movement, featuring: Cuban MC Telmary, who’s poetic touch has made her a mainstay on Canada’s world-music stages including the Montreal Jazz Festival, Luminato, Harbourfront Centre and Lula Lounge.
¡Bom Senso! DJs Catalist and Famous Lee have been shaking up Toronto for years with their signature Afro, Tropical, Brazilian flavoured beats!
Uma Nota and Footprints founder and resident General Eclectic is one of Toronto’s best-known DJs, recognized for making a lot of hips shake with his deep crates and vintage grooves.
Finally, your humble servants from Dos Mundos Radio, the Dos Mundos DJs will be making an appearance behind the decks – and in FULL force since the beginning of Spring!
