We’re still processing our recent trip to LAMC in NYC, so expect trickles of data to roll out on this blog with short flashes of fuzzy memories and half stories that trail off into weird gibberish…
We met a lot of folks while in NYC, and met in the physical sense because we already knew these people from the internet, from playing their music on the show and from being straight up fans of their stuff.
That’s why, when I heard about the Cumba Mela vs Subsuelo party happening at Bembe, I jumped at the chance to watch some of my favourite dudes play some real music. Both crews were super dope and really humble and I felt like we had met long lost cousins or something…
The Cumba Mela crew (2Melo, Atropolis and Thornato) have been holding it down for the global bass movement (with a hard lean towards the tropics) from time. They are top notch DJs and their productions are club bangers with a nod towards soulful melodies and a clear understanding and respect for the traditional.
When I received this EP in my inbox, I was immediately torn…do I share this with my peoples? or do I become a greedy bastard and save this heat for my sets? The devil on my right shoulder was like ‘name the folder something else and hide it on your backup drive’ and the devil on my left shoulder was like ‘yeah do that’.
BUT NO! F**K THAT! I LOVE YOU GUYS!!!
Seriously – these remixes are going to murder many a dancefloor (AIRHORNS & UMA NOTA, I’m looking at you!) and believe me when I say the Cumba Mela guys are going to be doing some big big big things!
