Dos Mundos Eats ~ Gourmet Gringo Food Truck!?

We all love food. Who doesn’t love food you can get off a truck. And recently, Toronto has seen a lot of rebel food trucks set up shop at festivals and other spaces, while the city waits to update their food truck plan. We’re all very happy that these trucks are blazing a trail but one thing lacking, however, is a selection of ‘Non-Western’ or ‘Non-Gringo’ fare from one our truck scene. Outside of El Gastrónomo Vagabundo, who fuses Southeast Asian cuisine with gourmet tacos, and Blue Donkey Streatery, who do Greek food, you’re looking at a medley of sandwiches, pizza, poutines and other types of snack-y foods.
Well, good news via TorontoFoodTrucks.ca today! A new “Latin-inspired food truck” is going to be rolling down the streets of TO soon. From the interview on TorontoFoodTrucks.ca AND this one over at SpotlightToronto.ca, the concept behind the Gourmet Gringo is:
1)’choose your vessel’ pick from Arepa, Taco, Burrito, Quesadilla, Torta or Poutine (!)
2) ‘choose your protein’ pick from carnitas, cochinita, mole braised short ribs, mexican spiced braised chicken, or fish (mahi mahi)
3) put it in your mouth
Also expect empanadas, Argentinean burgers and a Spanish Poutine with chorizo and pork belly! OK! Go to SpotlightToronto.ca for some preview pics of some of the food.
Kitchen is run by Arturo Gresshave, a Mexican-born chef who spent many years studying and working in big restaurants in Europe before moving to Toronto. Although the truck itself is not Mexocentric per-se, it does have a lot of Mexican influences on its menu, however, the crew behind the truck want to do specials from all over Latin America to make sure they don’t limit themselves to the usual Taco/Burrito thing.
Without tasting a drop of the food yet, we can honestly say we are excited for this new food truck to pull up. Even though you can get a variety of delicious Latin American and Latino-inspired foods all over Toronto – these guys are putting it all together in one spot, adding wheels and an engine and bringing it to your belly soon! YES!
Although there’s not much there yet – you can check out their website for details here –> http://www.gourmetgringos.com/ or follow them on twitter here —> https://twitter.com/gourmetgringos
