Moombahton is one of those genres that is in danger of going extinct thanks in part to the over-hyped madness that causes many to dismiss it without even listening to it and also in part to a lack of innovation. Already we’re seeing folks turn their backs on moombahton and throwing all their attention to trap, as if to say “moombah was just a fad, trap is the future”. This rejectionist attitude towards emerging music is really the cause for so much new music to come and go. Without second thought we download, maybe we’ll listen to it, most likely it will sit un-rar’d in your download folder.
And it’s really all about taste. What do you want to hear moombahton do? Personally, we like the type of moombahton that still keeps that tropical/dembow swing. It’s what first attracted us to the music – and it’s what keeps us somewhat invested in the movement. Sometimes a new artist/producer or song will come along and BANG we’re hooked again!
