New Freaky Tropical from Meridian Brothers!

Bogota’s MERIDIAN BROTHERS is multi-instrumentalist Eblis Álvarez, another member of Colombia’s ever expanding experimental music scene. As a guitarist, he has performed with Mario Galeano’s amazing project FRENTE CUMBIERO and recently as part of the all-star lineup on the ONDATRÓPICA project. But it’s his experimentation with guitars and electronics that led him to create Meridian Brothers, a sort of psychedelic take on tropical music.
This project actually started back in 1998 as an extension of Elbis’ love for Rock, Jazz, Electronic and Cumbia music. After several very successful cassette releases in Bogota’s underground music scene and eventually a full-length release in 2011 and a few 7″ pressings on the Names You Can Trust imprint from New York the same year has led to Merdian Brother’s first, feature album release on Soundway Records released TODAY!
Desperanza (Hopelessness) is a sonic trip that playfully blends Elbis’ passion for traditional Colombian tropical with psyched-out guitars, distorted vocals and freaky electronics. The result is a mind-expanding example of Colombian music that is both forward thinking and still deeply rooted in the traditional.
