New music from Argentina’s Kumbia Queers ‘Pecados Tropicales’!

Legends goes, Mexican punk rocker Ali Gua Gua (Las Ultrasonicas) jumped on a bus and travelled south to Argentina to start the band Kumbia Queers. An all-femme, obviously queer, obviously cumbia band that worshipped at the altar of Joey Ramone and Celso Piña! Their first album, ‘Cumbia Nena‘ caught us by surprise with their uber-cheeky cumbia covers of Madonna, Nancy Sinatra, The Cure, Black Sabbath and the Ramones.
Dos Mundos and Las Kumbia Queers go way back – we brought them to Toronto for a kick-ass show at Lula Lounge many years ago and have been hardcore fans ever since! This month, good news came from Kumbia Queer HQ – the new album dropped and there it was in my inbox!
Recorded this year, at Horror Kumbia Studios in Buenos Aires, by drummer Ines Laurencena aka Inesphector, ‘Pecadoes Tropicales‘ (Tropical Sins) is all rocanrol guitaras surfing over that familiar cumbia riddim that seamlessly fits into almost any sound. And the ladies are in fine form, from Cumbia Sonidera (Mexico) to Cumbia Villera (Argentina) the Cumbia sound is warped into party starting, heartbreaking, punk rock anthems that swing as much as they bite!
Check out their album preview video and lead single below – the album has been released in Argentina and Mexico and will soon be available in North America and Europe via COMFORT ZONE MUSIC.
