The Foreigner ~ Forró Film Needs Your Help!
Independent filmmaker and photographer Maya Annik Bedward is turning her lens on the magical world of Forró music for her upcoming film The Foreigner. Forró is a Northeastern Brazilian sound intertwines European and African instrumentation and song structures into a slow, sexy groove for the dance floor, making it the perfect setting for a love story.
The Foreigner unfolds against the urban backdrop of present-day Toronto and follows Christopher, a mild-mannered indie kid, who uncovers the magical world of Brazilian Forró.A fish out of water, he must confront his cultural wallflowers ways to realize the excitement and meaningful connection he truly desires.
A member of Toronto’s growing and closely-knit Forró community, Bedward pull from her own experiences to bring us into this almost secret world. The film also stars Juno nominated artist Aline Morales and features original music by her and David Arcus. Director Clement Virgo (RUDE; HBO’s THE WIRE) and producing partner Damon D’Oliveira (RUDE; Lie With Me) are Executive Producers on the project alongside Kate Fraser and Maya Annik Bedward.
