The magnificent Captain Planet’s ‘Mystery Trip Vol.1′

Why am I throwing around the word ‘magnificent’ today like that? Well, it takes a special kind of inspiration to hit that level of word play – and today’s inspiration comes from the four corners of the funky world via the dusty fingertips of Mr. Captain Planet.

<CUE FLASHBACK>

This Brooklyn-born, globe-trotting DJ/Producer first came to my attention about a year ago via a really dope breakbeat meets descarga track called ‘Dame Agua’ (off the Ningane EP on Bastard Jazz).

He appeared once again, this time with a banging 3ball remix of Ana Tijoux’ ‘Shock’!

WHAT!? WHO IS THIS DUDE!? Turns out he has a slew of releases that are JUST.AS.DOPE. on Bastard Jazz!

Is it enough that he’s got skills as a DJ/producer? NO! Of course not…don’t be an idiot. Turns out Captain Planet also has skills with the paint brush! In support of his new Mystery Trip Vol.1 mix for Bastard Jazz, Captain Planet hand-painted several cassette walkmen to play the mixtape! Yes!

AND! He is also running a contest on Turntable Lab where you can win THIS handpainted boombox!

Check out the magnificent Mystery Trip Vol.1 mix below and take in this “45 minute multi-generational sonic journey, touching on sounds from Senegal, Jamaica, Ghana, Puerto Rico, Peru, Brazil, Italy, Korea, Guadeloupe, and Zimbabwe”
